Withdrawal fee

A withdrawal fee is what an exchange charges to send crypto from your account to an outside address, usually a fixed amount of the coin per withdrawal that changes with the network you pick. Exchanges describe it as covering the blockchain's own network fee, and some add a processing charge of their own.

Four withdrawals at two exchanges on November 8, 2026

What does it cost to take coins off an exchange? Exchange Kraken’s fee and minimum table and exchange Binance’s crypto fee page, both read on the morning of November 8, 2026, give these flat amounts for a single withdrawal of each asset. Dollar values use exchange Coinbase’s public spot prices at 08:47 UTC, $75,809.34 for bitcoin and $2,234.96 for ether.

Asset and network Kraken Binance
BTC on Bitcoin 0.000015 BTC ($1.14) 0.00002 BTC ($1.52)
ETH on Ethereum 0.00014 ETH ($0.31) 0.00015 ETH ($0.34)
USDC on Ethereum 0.5922 USDC 1 USDC
USDC on Solana 0.9105 USDC 0.3 USDC

A third exchange sits higher. Exchange Bitfinex’s fee page listed 0.00006 BTC for a bitcoin withdrawal, about $4.55 and four times Kraken’s amount, and 0.001 ETH, about $2.23, for ether.

What the fee pays for

Exchanges frame the charge as the network’s cost passed on. Exchange Gemini’s transfer fee schedule says its dynamic withdrawal fees “are intended to cover network fees” and that “Gemini does not pocket the fee.” Exchange Bitstamp names the parts. Its variable fee, according to its fee schedule, combines Bitstamp’s estimate of network fees with its own crypto withdrawal processing fee, and the exact amount is disclosed before you confirm.

How does that compare with the chain itself? At 08:07 UTC the same morning, this site’s gas fee entry measured a USDC transfer on Ethereum at $0.0053 to $0.0073. Kraken’s 0.5922 USDC for the same kind of transfer is roughly 80 to 110 times that.

Where you see it, and the network trap

The final number appears on the withdrawal screen. Kraken says its fees “are subject to change” and that the final fee is shown at confirmation, and Binance says its rates “can fluctuate without notice.”

Picking the cheaper network is a habit that does not travel. At Binance, USDC on Solana cost 0.3 against 1 on Ethereum, while at Kraken the order flipped, with Solana at 0.9105 and Ethereum at 0.5922. Kraken’s Ethereum figure moves with network costs, and an hour later its page showed 0.5882. Minimums differ as well. Binance’s smallest ETH withdrawal, 0.002 ETH, was almost 12 times Kraken’s 0.000168.

A wrong choice on the receiving side costs more than any fee. Bitfinex charges $150 to attempt a token recovery when a deposit arrives without the tag or memo it needed, and it warns on its fee page that a recovery can take months to complete.

Before you send, check that the destination supports the network you select, and read its deposit confirmations rules.
